The horror season is upon the video game world and one of the most well-known modern horror titles is making a comeback. To embrace the honored tradition of supplying holiday frights, Frictional Games has unveiled a new trailer for Amnesia: Rebirth ahead of its approaching release date.

The trailer comes just over a week away from Amnesia: Rebirth's confirmed October 20 release date on the PlayStation 4 and PC. Dubbed the "Story & Environments" trailer, it shows not only the landscapes of the game, but teases the reason as to why players will have to trudge through the spooky atmosphere.

The trailer opens with a voiceover from character Salim addressed to player character Tasi Trianon, explaining the scenario that spurs the narrative. Set in 1937, Trianon survives a plane crash of "The Cassandra" alongside its crew. After Salim and other crew members attempt to escape through caves, they never return, prompting Tasi to go exploring. The trailer provides numerous quips from the crew, each teasing a glimpse of the horrors they faced. The trailer ends with a cryptic "Don't worry, we'll get you home" while zooming out on a plush monkey.

Aside from the story, the trailer also provides glimpses at the Algerian landscape that surrounds the haunted caves and crevices devoid of light. It seems Amnesia: Rebirth is more willing to play with color and light when compared to other titles from developer Frictional Games. There appears to be a lot of variety with the environment, likely to make the journey all the more uncomfortable for players. Despite the synopsis of Amnesia: Rebirth confirming that there will be "creatures" which require crafty escape measures, the story trailer doesn't provide even a hint of what they might be.

This is not the first big trailer to demonstrate the psychological horror that Amnesia: Rebirth will bestow upon players. Early in October, Frictional Games showed off some of the puzzle solving in Amnesia: Rebirth which will be a big portion of the gameplay. Since the announcement of the title back in March, Frictional Games has continued to provide new insights into how Amnesia: Rebirth will adhere to the roots of the series while shaking up the setting.

The new trailer will likely be the last until players can return to the haunting world of Amnesia, a franchise considered a must-play by many horror enthusiasts. It arrives just at the perfect time when horror games are all the rage due to the spooky season. With Amnesia: Rebirth among the big horror titles releasing for Halloween, it likely will make an impact on those seeking a thrill.

Amnesia: Rebirth will launch on October 20 for PC and PS4.
