  • AMD may release FSR 3, its AI-powered upscaling technology, as early as next month, rivaling Nvidia's DLSS.
  • FSR 3 is expected to be ready by Q4 and could be launched in September, possibly coinciding with the release of Starfield .
  • FSR 3 will likely be compatible with Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs and may launch before or around the same time as the Navi 32 GPUs in October.

AMD could release FSR 3 or FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 as early as next month, a new leak suggests. FSR is an upscaling technology and AMD’s response to Nvidia’s DLSS or Deep Learning Super Sampling. The new tech is said to incorporate AI-powered frame generation similar to what Nvidia does with DLSS 3. The leak also states that OEM partners will be notified about briefings related to FSR 3 this week, once again suggesting an imminent launch.

AMD introduced FSR 1 back in June 2021 to compete with Nvidia’s much more robust DLSS system. However, FSR 1 did not use any machine learning and did not require any dedicated hardware. In May 2022, FSR 2 was released, and it brought performance improvements that were comparable with DLSS. FSR 2.2 was the latest update from AMD that further optimized the technology. With Nvidia introducing DLSS 3 in October 2022 alongside its RTX 4090 graphics card, fans of Team Red have been eagerly waiting for FSR 3.

A new leak suggests that FSR 3 could release as early as next month. The information comes from popular tipster Moore’s Law Is Dead. According to his recent video on YouTube, AMD is just about ready with FSR 3. He stated that AMD has informed OEMs to be ready for briefings related to FSR 3 this week. The technology is said to be ready by Q4 and will most likely be out by September.

While AMD has not shared any information on the release date for FSR 3, Starfield is scheduled to launch on September 6, and the company could just make the announcement on the same day. Notably, the leak also mentions that the company wants to have FSR 3 out in time for reviews of Navi 32 GPUs, expected to be the Radeon RX 7700 and RX 7800. This suggests FSR 3 will launch before or around the same time as the Navi 32 GPUs expected in October.

Speaking of Starfield, the game can be owned for free by purchasing an eligible Ryzen 7000 series CPU or Radeon RX 6000/7000 series GPU. The bundle will be available till September 30 and users will have till October 28 to redeem their free game. Do note that some CPUs and GPUs are eligible for the Standard Edition of the game while others come with the Premium Edition.

FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 will work with Radeon RX 7000 series of GPUs and give them that extra performance boost. While it is unclear if the tech will be compatible with older generation graphics cards, it is likely that the Radeon RX 6000 series will get support for FSR 3.

Radeon RX 7000 Series Cards With Starfield For Free

  • Gigabyte Radeon RX 7600 OC 8GB Windforce
Gigabyte Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC

The Gigabyte Radeon RX 7600 Gaming OC is a triple-fan dual-slot graphics card that brings Gigabyte's effective WINDFORCE cooling technology. It has three 80mm fans with alternate spinning that work alongside the five composite copper heat pipes that directly touch the GPU. The GPU uses the highest-grade metal chokes, 2oz copper PCB, lower ESR solid capacitors, and lower RDS(on) MOSFETs, among other features.

Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU

The Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a top-tier graphics card that will run any game at high detail and frame rates. It also offers a unique, user-friendly feature with its Fan Quick Connect system. If a fan issue occurs, there's no need to send the whole card back.

The graphics card also sports a Dual ARGB Light Bar. Not only is the GPU super powerful, but it also provides aesthetic appeal with ARGB LEDs.

Unlike DLSS, FSR is open source which means it is not exclusive to select GPUs. This means it works with all graphics cards. FSR 2 uses the GPU shader cores to run a temporal upscaling algorithm that collects data from multiple sources to improve performance in games that support it. It also brings pixel ridge locking which locks on to thin the edges of geometry in games to avoid shimmering or flickering. FSR 3 is expected to bring AI frame generation or frame interpolation technology which uses AI to create frames between two rendered frames to increase the frame rate and smoothness.
