  • AMD may bring the Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) GPU to laptops, potentially offering more powerful graphics cards for gamers and professionals.
  • The leaked information suggests that AMD will incorporate the modified Navi 31 XL die into laptops, which could bring significant performance improvements compared to current mobile Radeon RX 7000 series offerings.
  • The RX 7900 GRE, initially released for desktops, has a high Total Board Power (TBP) of 260W, so it is likely that AMD will tweak the specifications to make it more laptop-friendly and potentially offer more compute units than previous mobile GPUs in the RX series.

AMD could be planning on bringing the Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) GPU to laptops. A recent leak suggests that the company is looking to incorporate the modified Navi 31 XL die present in the newly released graphics card into laptops by possibly further tweaking its specifications. It should be noted that AMD has not shared any information on this development, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Currently, AMD offers the Radeon RX 7600M, RX 7600M XT, RX 7700S, and RX 7600S as its current generation mobile graphics cards. The company unveiled its mobile lineup in January this year, and fans have been waiting for more options in both the desktop and mobile GPU space. Now, it looks like a new mobile GPU will be added to the list, hopefully marking the onset of more powerful laptop graphics cards from the chipmaker.

A new leak that comes from Golden Pig's Upgrade Pack on Weibo (via Videocardz) suggests AMD will incorporate the RX 7900 GRE in laptops. This means the Navi 31 XL GPU, present in the 7900 GRE, will come to laptops and mobile devices, possibly bringing significant performance improvements compared to the currently available offerings in the mobile Radeon RX 7000 series.

The Radeon RX 7900 GRE was released late last month, initially in China, and then globally through system integrators. The graphics card carries a modified Navi 31 die that is present in the Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX SKUs. It has been dubbed Navi 31 XL and has the same size as Navi 32, but with two disabled Infinity Cache units. The RX 7900 GRE originally launched by the Sapphire brand carries the same cooler design as the standard Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XT. Being a desktop GPU, it is rated for a Total Board Power (TBP) of 260W which is a bit less than the regular 7900 XT’s 315W TBP.

Looking at the high TBP of the GRE card, AMD will likely tweak the specifications to make it more laptop friendly. Furthermore, the GRE card features 80 compute units, which means its mobile version will probably come with significantly more compute units compared to the RX 7600M (28), RX 7600M XT (32), RX 7700S (32), and the RX 7600S (28). Comparing it to the previous generation, the top-tier AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT and RX 6800M came with 40 compute units, while the AMD Radeon RX 6700M came with 36. Similarly, the Radeon RX 6800S came with 32 and the RX 6700S came with 28.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Edition

This Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop is the Alan Walker Special Edition, created with DJ Alan Walker. The device itself is a regular, powerful Zephyrus G14 with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU for proper gaming chops. The display on it is a 14-inch and WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440) panel that supports up to 120 Hz refresh rate. The laptop comes with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a one-terabyte SSD.

As of now, there aren’t a lot of laptop SKUs carrying the Radeon TX 7000M or 7000S series of graphics cards. If the leak turns out to be true, and AMD does bring a tweaked RX 7900 GRE to laptops, it will hopefully open the gate to more powerful Radeon 7000M series gaming and productivity laptops.
