Ayaneo is gearing up to launch its latest handheld gaming PC to take on the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, called the Ayaneo KUN. The company recently unveiled the specifications for the upcoming device, and it boasts four times the battery capacity compared to the Steam Deck. It also has a larger, higher-resolution display, and more powerful internals. The Ayaneo KUN is powered by the AMD Ryzen Phoenix 7040 series APUs.

While there were quite a few handheld gaming PCs in the market before the Steam Deck, they mostly remained outside the mainstream. The Steam Deck caused a massive wave in the handheld gaming space because of not just the form factor, but also the value proposition. The idea of being able to play most Steam games on the go for just $399 was an amazing feeling. Because of how a company like Valve stepped into the segment, it gave others the confidence and the inspiration to improve their own handhelds. Ayaneo is one such company that has been making handheld gaming PCs since 2020 and has been releasing new models quite frequently.

Valve Made A Big Splash With Its Steam Deck

Having a portable console that mainly serves a purpose at home might seem strange, but the Valve Steam Deck showed that this is how many people choose to play video games.

The latest entry in the Ayaneo lineup will be the Ayaneo KUN. It is powered by the Ryzen 7 7840U APU which includes the Radeon 780M GPU, a combination that is currently being used only by a handful of portable gaming PCs. The Ayaneo KUN sports a large 8.4-inch 2.5K (1600p) IPS display that is most likely 60Hz as the company does not mention any frame rate details. While these specifications are already impressive, what’s even more impressive is the fact that the KUN houses a battery that is about four times that of the Steam Deck.

Ayaneo's upcoming handheld gaming device, the Ayaneo KUN, will come with the latest AMD Ryzen 7040 series APUs that have integrated Radeon 700M graphics. The Ayaneo KUN features a large 8.4-inch 1600p display that is flanked by hall-effect joysticks and touchpads. The most exciting feature of the KUN is its massive 75Wh 19500mAH battery which is about four times the capacity of the Steam Deck.

The KUN comes with a 19500mAh (75Wh) battery compared to the measly 5313mAh (40Wh) battery on the Steam Deck as well as the ROG Ally (40Wh). As of now, the company has not shared the dimensions and weight of the KUN, and it's hard to judge only from the images. This large battery makes sense given the internals of the Ayaneo handheld. The 7840U APU along with the large high-resolution screen will eat up a lot of battery, so it would be interesting to see how the capacity translates to real-world use. For reference, the Steam Deck lasts about 1.5 hours to 2 hours with its 7-inch 800p 60Hz display and the 15W max APU.

Ayaneo KUN Design

The large 8.4-inch screen is flanked by a series of buttons and touch inputs. The KUN comes with Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, a D-pad on the left side, Windows Hello sensors, rounded touchpads on either side, and four extra customizable buttons on the back. It has a USB Type-C port on the bottom and another one on top alongside a USB Type-A port. There are dual stereo speakers at the bottom where there also seems to be a microSD card slot. Ayaneo will be offering the KUN in two colors, black and white.

Ayaneo Kun Availability

As of now, Ayaneo has not shared any information about the pricing or availability of the KUN. But, we can deduce that it will be much more expensive than the Steam Deck which starts at $399 as well as the ROG Ally which costs $599. The company’s Ayaneo 2S starts at $1299, but it offers better specifications than the Steam Deck as it houses the same Ryzen 7 7840U APU and a larger battery. It’s safe to assume that the Ayaneo KUN will be priced higher than the 2S.
