Aside from the monsters that seemingly come out of nowhere, Derceto Manor is filled with all sorts of puzzles that stand between you and your next objective. Some puzzles in Alone in the Dark are pretty simple, like the locked box, while others are significantly more complex with multiple steps that need to be taken in order to solve them.
Early on in the game, you will encounter one such puzzle in Perosi's room. This puzzle can be tricky since it isn't always obvious what you are supposed to do next, but here is how you can solve it.

The new Alone in the Dark is a generic survival-horror adventure that fails to break the trend of bad Alone in the Dark games.
How to Get Into Perosi's Room
In order to reach this puzzle, you must first acquire Room Key #6. This key can be obtained from the Clerk's Office, which can only be opened once you have completed the French Quarter area. Once you've done that, head to Perosi's Room.
How to Solve the Puzzle in Perosi's Room
Before you do anything else, you will want to check for a book in this room. Aside from containing a cryptic journal entry from Perosi, it will also have a diagram of the 12 zodiac signs. This will be important to reference later, so make a note of it.
Next, look in the corner of the room to spot some portraits with a line of mold growing on them. Each portrait can be flipped, but they all need to be flipped so that the black mold forms a wave as depicted in the image above. When you have successfully done this, you will see three names. The names are William Arges, Franklyn Mosig, and Norah Keith. Make note of these names, as they are important.
In this room, there is a family tree on the wall. You will find a variety of names on the family tree, including the ones that were behind the portraits. Pay attention to the numbers above each portrait. You will see the following numbers for the three people mentioned above: two, nine, and four.
Look back at the diagram of the 12 zodiac signs. Aquarius, Scorpio, and Sagitarius all have a number above them. Based on the order of the numbers, the rest of the diagram would look like the image above if every sign was numbered. So the three numbers you found earlier would be the following signs: Pisces, Libra, and Taurus.
Approach the lock in the room and enter those three signs in that exact order. If done correctly, the lock will automatically open, and you will get the Broken Plate. It may not seem all that important right now, but you will need this for another puzzle soon.
