While Alone in the Dark has a relatively short runtime, it does have some amount of replayability. At the very least, it is worth going through the game twice to see it from both Emily Hartwood's and Edward Carnby's perspectives. In addition to the default ending, there are several secret endings that you can see. One ending requires you to have played both campaigns to unlock it.

Unfortunately, getting the non-default endings can be a little tricky since several of them have very narrow windows of time in which they can be triggered. So if you are looking to see other potential outcomes for this story, here is how you do it.

This guide contains spoilers, so proceed with caution.

Alone in the Dark Review

The new Alone in the Dark is a generic survival-horror adventure that fails to break the trend of bad Alone in the Dark games.

Default Ending (Edward and Emily)

alone in the dark all endings 2

For the most part, both campaigns play out the same except for certain cutscenes and what objectives you have during the fourth chapter. If you go from start to finish in both campaigns, you will get the same ending but with either Edward or Emily. These two endings are the only ones where you have to fight the final boss. Once you've beaten Shub-Niggurath, all that's left is to watch the ending.

Bad Ending (Emily)

There are several steps you must complete to unlock the bad ending for Emily. First, you must collect the entire Dying With Dignity Lagniappe set. Once you've found them all, you will gain a new objective during the fourth chapter. While you are in Dr. Gray's Apartment, go into the side room where you found the Furniture Key. Examine the paint thinner next to the lamp, and you will be given the option to use it. Doing so reveals the true painting that Jeremy tried to conceal.

After killing Jacob, there will be a cutscene where Emily encounters the Dark Man. Normally at this point, the fifth chapter would begin. However, if you used the paint thinner you will briefly gain control over Emily. On PC, hold down "D" until Emily makes the sign to the Dark Man. On Steam Deck, you have to move the right thumb stick to the right.

Bad Ending (Edward)

alone in the dark all endings 5

Just like Emily, you will need to collect certain Lagniappes to unlock the secret objective for this ending. To be more specific, you must complete the Goat Without Horns set. Before going to Dr. Gray's Apartment, go to the Conservatory and approach the Wishing Tree.

Go to the other side of the tree, and you will see a spot you can interact with. This will update your objective and will tell you that "She will call you when it is time". Keep playing the game as normal until you reach the final chapter. During the cutscene where Grace is being sacrificed, you will briefly gain control over Edward once Emily shoots Batiste in the leg. Using the same controls as the bad ending for Emily, look to the left toward the tree to trigger the bad ending for Edward (and Grace).

Secret Ending (Grace)

alone in the dark all endings 6

This ending can be unlocked on either Emily or Edward. First, you will need to complete the All the World's a Stage Lagniappe set. Once you've begun the final chapter, approach Grace and you will be given the option to give her something to play with. This unlocks the secret ending along with the "What Just Happened?" achievement/trophy.
