But what is it that makes Alan Wake's gameplay so fun and satisfying? The answer is an amalgamation of light and dark. Players must use light-based tools to lower their enemies' defenses, and employ deadly guns to finish them off. Here's every Alan Wake and how they stack up against each other within the players' experience.

9 Shotgun

Players will come across the official Shotgun, a double-barreled break-action weapon in Episode 1: Nightmare. It would be shallow to call this a bad gun, as it is not. The Shotgun deals three times more damage than the standard revolver, making it pretty deadly.

However, the biggest drawback with this gun is its ammo quantity. Since it is a double-barreled gun, it can only fire two shots before a reload. This it makes it hard to deal with a large number of dark-induced enemies at once. It is fairly usable in tight situations, but players can't count on it to take them through the entire game.

8 Flashlight & Heavy-Duty Flashlight

The standard Flashlight woild be an accessory in any other game. However, in Alan Wake Remastered, it is a side weapon. Since the game's protagonist is fighting evil in the form of the dark, the best defense is light. Hence, a Flashlight is the easiest way of producing light in the game.

Undoubtedly, this is the most trustworthy weapon in the game, but it doesn't compare to other light weapons in terms of sheer luminance. The Heavy-Duty Flashlight is its advanced, more powerful form. It does everything a Flashlight does, but is much brighter and therefore more effective.

7 Hunting Rifle

This weapon is hands down the most powerful conventional gun inAlan Wake Remastered. As the name suggests, the Hunting Rifle exists for one purpose and one purpose only: Hunting. Hence, it has extremely dominating absolute force, but a slow use of action.

This weapon can single-shot most enemies and can shoot five shots per reload. The downside here is the overall low speed, and the fact that players can not carry other guns like Shotgun alongside this.

6 Flashbang

Alan-Wake-Weapons---Flashbang-1

The Flashbang is the most easy-to-use weapon in the game, especially when players are facing a horde of enemies. Most FPS players are already familiar with the mechanics of this one. Flashbangs usually explode, causing a blast of sound, light, and heavy impact.

Flashbangs can leave a burst of light of around 7 million candelas, helping protect Alan from the darkness. Within the game, the Flashbang's biggest downside is the quantity, and the fact that it doesn't leave a haven of light like other light-based weapons do.

5 Revolver

Alan-Wake-Weapons---Revolver-1

Alan Wake's standard gun is an instant classic and the game's most trustworthy weapon. It's easy for players to find ammo for it, and it works quickly. It is not the most powerful weapon in the game, but players will be using it a lot for its reliability and ease of use.

All players will find the Revolver in Episode 1: Nightmare, as their first weapon in the game. It usually takes 2-6 shots to knock down enemies with this one.

4 Flare

Alan-Wake-Weapons---Flare-1

Want a long-lasting safe haven of light? Use the Flare. Most players use the Flare to create an aura of light around a specific zone. Not only does this work like a repellant for the enemies, but it also diminishes their darkness, leaving them vulnerable and open for an insta-kill.

Players can carry a maximum of 20 flares, and they work best against the poltergeist objects. Alan can also hold a lit Flare and walk with it, making it a nice asset in tight situations.

3 Pump-Action Shotgun

The Pump-action Shotgun is a little less powerful than the double-barreled break-action one. However, what it lacks in sheer power, it makes up with total ammo rounds and spread of buckshot.

With its spread, this weapon can hit multiple enemies at one time. Moreover, it carries eight bullets, which can help keep Alan alive in the worst of situations. The Pump-Action Shotgun is also very steady, and taking headshots with it is certainly satisfying.

2 Lantern & Heavy Duty Lantern

Alan-Wake-Weapons---Heavy-Duty-Lantern-1

The Lantern and the Heavy Duty Lantern are two of the most powerful hand-held light sources in Alan Wake Remastered. They do everything that Flashlight, does but are much faster and more reliable.

The higher battery capacity of these tools means players will be able to shed a lot of light when they need it, allowing Alan to utterly eviscerate his enemies. The only downside is the limited boosting capacity, but it's a small price to pay.

1 Flare Gun

Alan-Wake-Weapons---Flare-Gun-1

Hands down, the Flare gun is the most dominant weapon in Alan Wake Remastered. With barely a second of reloading rate, this weapon deals both light and damage to the enemies. It can easily one-shot weaker enemies, and also creates a safe zone for a brief time. It is a great weapon to use against the flock, or in unfavorable situations. Players can find Flare Gun in Episode 1: Nightmare in a chest after escaping from the building destroyed by the tractor.

The blast radius of this weapon makes it the most over-powered gun in the game, and players could easily force their way through if they used the Flare Gun nonstop. Luckily for balance, scarcity forces players not to spam Flare Gun in every encounter.
