Highlights

  • Dead by Daylight has a history of successful crossovers with major horror franchises, and the upcoming Alan Wake crossover is expected to be one of the game's best.
  • The Remedy Connected Universe, which includes games like Control and Alan Wake 2, has established a connection between these games and could potentially reference the Dead by Daylight crossover.
  • By incorporating the Dead by Daylight crossover into one of The Dark Place's loops, the Remedy Connected Universe could easily reference the game through in-game documents that mention the Entity, Killers, and specific maps.

With its first one taking place all the way back in October 2016, Dead by Daylight is certainly no stranger to high-profile crossovers. Since then, Dead by Daylight has crossed over with a slew of major horror franchises, from Saw to Halloween to Alien to Child's Play and even fellow horror gaming series Resident Evil. Over the last eight years, fans have come to expect impressive things from Dead by Daylight's crossover DLC, and that's especially true for its upcoming Alan Wake crossover.

Set to hit the game on January 30 2024, Dead by Daylight's Alan Wake crossover will see the titular writer enter the Entity's Trials as a Survivor, equipped with a unique set of Perks that greatly favors the use of a flashlight. Dead by Daylight's Alan Wake crossover DLC is already shaping up to be one of the game's very best, and if it ends up being as successful as it seems it'll be, it would make a whole lot of sense for this crossover to be referenced in Remedy's Connected Universe.

Alan Wake's Dead by Daylight Crossover Could be Referenced in the Remedy Connected Universe

The Current State of the Remedy Connected Universe

The Remedy Connected Universe first reared its head back in 2019 with the release of Control. Set in the Federal Bureau of Control, Control sees players take on the role of Jesse Faden, a woman capable of wielding paranatural powers who's tasked with becoming the FBC's new director and sorting out the various paranatural breaches occurring throughout the facility. Along the way, players can find an in-game document that refers to an Altered World Event occurring in Bright Falls, the same town in which Alan Wake takes place.

Soon after Control's release, Remedy officially confirmed that the two games were linked, and that they were now part of the Remedy Connected Universe. While that in-game note was a fun little building block for the Remedyverse, this concept was first fully explored in Control's AWE DLC, where Alan Wake makes a sizable cameo along with a handful of other Alan Wake characters, enemies, and themes.

Alan Wake 2 then fully explored this concept of a connected universe, having the FBC play a prominent role in the game's story, and having characters like Jesse Faden and Casper Darling make brief cameos. It's clear that Remedy is really enjoying its exploration of its connected universe, and it seems to be striking the perfect balance between fan-service and original storytelling, ensuring that its cameos and references are actually in service to the game's story.

How Dead by Daylight Could Be Worked into Remedy's Connected Universe

Dead by Daylight Remedy Connected Universe

So far, the Remedy Connected Universe seems to be making all the right moves, and with it having now fully established itself with Alan Wake 2, it's more than earned the right to make a fun little reference to the Dead by Daylight x Alan Wake crossover. The most obvious way to integrate Dead by Daylight's Alan Wake crossover with the Remedy Connected Universe is by making it part of one of The Dark Place's loops.

During Alan Wake 2, Alan realizes that The Dark Place has trapped him in a never-ending loop. With The Dark Place able to manipulate itself to mess with Alan's psyche, it would make sense that in one of these loops it throws Alan into a Dead by Daylight Trial. There are a few different ways the next Remedy Connected Universe game could reference this, but the easiest would probably be an in-game document that references Dead by Daylight's Entity, Killers, and maybe a specific map.
