In the previous chapter of Alan Wake 2, players discovered that they had been deceived. Scratch nearly managed to get his hands on the Clicker, and that would have been bad news for Bright Falls and, eventually, the rest of the world. Return 7: Summoning is the beginning of the end for Alan Wake 2. The ending isn't much further, and one of the obstacles that await players is the final boss. Here is what players can expect as they begin Return 7: Summoning.

This walkthrough contains significant spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Preparation

Before proceeding with this chapter, make sure to save in either the basement or the new save point located in the room with Casey and Estevez. After that, talk to both Casey and Estevez. Eventually, Estevez gives players a key to access what information the FBC has on Cauldron Lake. Go back to the holding cell that contains all the FBC equipment.

Go through each document to find clues to put up on the Case Board. After placing the evidence, players will have a new option for profiling Tor. After doing all this, head back to Estevez and ask her about the Clicker. This gives a new piece of evidence for the Case Board that, when placed in the right section, unlocks yet another profiling option for Tor. With this new evidence, return to the Case Board and place it. By this point, players should have a new dialogue option when talking to Estevez.

At this point, players will receive a warning that they are about to start the end of the game. Make sure to save before going any further.

Go to the car and select Cauldron Lake to officially begin the final chapters of Alan Wake 2.

Get to the Lake Shore

Unfortunately, the shortcut that would have gotten players to the Lake Shore quickly is blocked off. The only option is to go the long, dangerous way. Along the way, players will be attacked by Taken. Since players will have already been through this area, there won't be much to find, unfortunately.

Along the way to Cauldron Lake, there will be a dark barrier that needs to be burned away. Before speaking to Tor and Odin, make sure to loot the nearby supplies in preparation for the final battle.

Survive the Summoning

While it may not be as over the top as the musical in Initiation 4: We Sing, this is certainly close. Players must survive against waves of Taken as the Old Gods of Asgard perform a concert as a means of pulling Alan out of the Dark Place.

Lots and lots of Taken will spawn. Keep moving and dodge as many attacks as possible. Move toward active flares to save batteries. Keep going until a cutscene eventually triggers. At this point, the game will switch back to Alan.

Enter Parliament Tower

Just like in previous chapters, go into Parliament Tower and enter the apartment. This starts Initiation 9: Gone. The apartment is depressingly empty this time. The door with the spiral on it can't be opened, but it does throw the usual jump scare at players. Go into the next room and approach the projector screen and interact with it to trigger a live-action cutscene that ends this brief chapter, which then begins the final battle.

How to Beat Alan

In a bizarre twist, players have to fight Alan Wake. He's been overtaken by the power of the Dark Presence, and the only way to stop him is to seal him away. Just like in the previous fight, unload as much damage into him as possible to stun him. While he is recovering, rotate the two lights so that they fully point at the containment cell. This takes awhile, so Alan may interrupt players a few times before they can finish aligning a light. Once both lights are aligned, run into the cell to trigger a cutscene.

Talk to Agent Estevez

The story is not over yet, though. At this point, players will resume control over Alan. Find Agent Estevez and talk to her. Once she offers weapons, take them and loot the box she stands next to as well. To progress the story, go under the tree next to Agent Estevez.

Unfortunately there is no map for this section, so players will just have to look for a path as much as possible. There will be several Taken along the way. Ammo is limited, so make every shot count. Luckily, the shortcut that leads to the parking lot is open this time. When approaching the car, players have only one option and that is to go to Bright Falls to begin the final chapters of Alan Wake 2.
