Highlights

  • Remedy has shared release window plans for Alan Wake 2 DLC, with the first being Night Springs, a piece of post-launch content that is slated to release in Spring.
  • However, Spring ends on June 20, so the clock is ticking if Remedy wants to release Night Springs on time.
  • Fans are eagerly awaiting information on the DLC, which could occur at 2024's Summer Games Fest.

Last October, Alan Wake 2 was released and marked developer Remedy Entertainment's next foray into the world of the tormented writer's travels through the Dark Place dimension and battle of wits against the Lovecraftian entity known as the Dark Presence residing within. After nearly a decade-long wait for the sequel, Alan Wake 2 was met with mostly positive critical and fan reactions, praised in large part for its use of both survival horror design elements and the studio's trademark blend of live-action elements within the setting and gameplay.

After seeing success with the followup and being nominated for multiple categories at The Game Awards (and winning three), Remedy kept the ball rolling by adding in Alan Wake 2's Final Draft Mode update only a few short months later, just before the end of the year. Final Draft added new content and significantly recontextualized the base ending. Remedy had also previously stated plans for two DLCs in 2024, with the first being Night Springs. Given a "Spring" release frame, which would technically be until June 20, 2024, that window is closing fast and, as of time of writing, there is still no firm date or news about it yet. As such, it might behoove the studio to do so soon to reassure fans that it is still on track and provide at least a few further details about its content.

Update: Remedy creative director Sam Lake recently posted a teaser about an upcoming announcement at the Summer Games Fest , being held on June 7. Although not officially confirmed at this time, this will possibly be related to Alan Wake 2 or Night Springs.

Night Springs' Importance to Alan Wake

Night Springs in Alan Wake's world has long been a story and lore component, being both an in-universe property that Alan is attached to as well as one of the many meta-commentary aspects that Remedy has become well-known for. As a Twilight Zone adjacent TV series mirroring many of the games' situations and themes, Night Springs has been woven intricately into both, in addition to being a part of the greater Remedy Connected Universe, notably referenced in 2019's Control.

Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC Release and More Details Will Hopefully be Revealed at Summer Games Fest

As mentioned, Remedy has previously promised a "Spring" release for the DLC, which would be quite fitting as a nod to its title. It's also a fairly reasonable time between Alan Wake 2's late Fall launch and the first expansion, as Control's first DLC was released in a similar pattern. With the unresolved threads in Alan Wake 2, the DLC is primed to answer some of the most intriguing of these, and many fans have surely been eagerly awaiting it. Remedy currently has a number of other irons in the fire in addition to Alan Wake 2's DLCs, including multiple Control projects along with the two Max Payne remakes. It could be then that the studio simply had its hands full and was waiting for an opportune time, and perhaps it has chosen the Summer Games Fest for this purpose.

Sam Lake's recent tweet is likely to please fans, since it means Remedy will definitely be providing an update of some kind during the Fest. And although it could be related to any of its projects, given that the timing seems to align, this might indicate more information about Night Springs is indeed nigh. In an optimal scenario, the announcement will be swiftly followed by Alan Wake 2's Night Springs DLC being made available, which would make it hit its target window on time and provide players who have been anticipating it with the next thrilling chapter of the adventure.
