Now that Alan Wake 2 players have a basic understanding of mechanics in the Dark Place after completing the previous chapter, Initiation 2: Casey kicks it up a notch. Players will have to be on their guard as they will have to run away from or deal with shadows while they try to find the subway. To complicate matters further, some shadows become Taken and there is no warning as to when this can happen.

The majority of Initiation 2: Casey takes place in the subway tunnels, and it is very easy to get lost and not be certain where to go or what to do next. Here is what Alan Wake 2 players can expect to encounter in this chapter.

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Use Light to Get Inside Caldera St. Station

Once the cutscene ends, look for a map to the left of the phone booth. This will give players a map of the area, which will make it much easier to find Caldera Street Station. Head north towards Caldera Street Plaza. Unfortunately, the entrance to the subway is missing. It will require players to find a light source like in the previous chapter.

On the west side of Caldera Street Plaza, look for a neon sign that says Neighborhood Illumination. Go down the alley that the arrow is pointing towards to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene ends, go to the end of the alley. After Casey is done talking, pick up the flashlight that is on the ground along with the gun. After that, use the Angel Lamp to take the nearby light.

When going back through the alley, players will be approached by shadowy figures. Focus the flashlight on them to make them disappear. Keep going until encountering a Taken. Kill it and then use the flashlight to remove the darkness that is blocking the stairs at the end of the alley. Return to the entrance to Caldera Street Station. Use the Angel Lamp to open the stairs that lead down to the subway station.

Find Another Light

Unfortunately, the way forward is blocked. Players will need to find another light to go further into the subway station. Before doing anything else, head down toward Draft Street and look for a series of phone booths.

With the flashlight, players will see a series of arrows. Follow them and look up to see words in a circle on the underside of a bridge. Focus the flashlight on them to get a Word of Power. Words of Power can be used to upgrade various abilities for Alan that will make it easier to survive in the Dark Place.

While exploring th Dark Place, players will encounter lots of shadows. It is better to avoid them if possible and save batteries for ones that can't be run past.

To find another light source, take the one that reveals the subway entrance and move it to a lamp post that is at the corner of Caldera Street and Draft Street. This reveals a set of stairs that go up. Go across the train tracks to find a ladder. At the top of the ladder, look for a door with a yellow light above it. Open the door and go down the stairs to find a door that leads outside. To the left will be an open door with a room where players can save manually.

From the save room, go south towards the scaffolding to find a door and a set of stairs that lead up. This leads to a bright light source that can be taken with the Angel Lamp. Pulling the light turns the car into a police car and the sirens go off, attracting a lot of unwanted attention. Quickly turn to face the metal grate and open the door. Run towards the light, take it, and then open the subway station again.

Align the Echo By Approaching It From a Specific Angle

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough4

Go down into the subway station and use the second light to reveal a gate that leads further into the subway station. Approach the terminal and insert the subway pass. On the other side of the gate, there is an Echo that players can access by looking at it from a specific angle long enough. In order to do this, players will need to look for a white light and a dark light floating in the air. By looking at them at a certain angle, the two lights will merge and look like an eclipse.

If the eclipse light is glowing brightly, it means that players are about to trigger the Echo. If playing on a controller, it will vibrate more intensely the closer players are to successfully aligning the two lights.

Explore the Station

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough5

This echo grants Alan enough information to use on the Storyboard, which functions similarly to Saga's Case Board. Inserting the information unblocks the tunnels and allows players to go further. There will be bloody tracks on the ground nearby. Follow them down deeper into the tunnel. The trail leads to a door and a set of stairs that go down further.

This leads to another tunnel, and in this area there will be another spot where players can save. Outside the save room is a map of the subway. Use the nearby train car to get past all of the rubble. Continue to follow the trail of blood. Follow the trail to reach a collapsed tunnel. Return to the Storyboard to open a new path forward. Further ahead there will be a light that players can take to remove an obstacle that blocks the path. Search the area for another echo and then go back to the start of the collapsed tunnel.

Swap out the Missing FBI Agent portion for the newly discovered Murder Cult on the Storyboard to change the collapsed tunnel. Go back out of the collapsed tunnel and look for a set of stairs that leads down to a flooded area. Insert the light with the Angel Lamp here to open a path forward. In the next area, look for a door with graffiti above it that says "Scratch". Go up the stairs to find a save point and some lockers that will contain useful supplies like batteries.

Search For the Cult

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough6

Go up the nearby ladder to discover a derailed train. Return to the Storyboard to open a new path. Enter this new area and search for an echo to get a story thread about Torchbearers. Insert the Torchbearers story thread into the Derailed Train scene to gain access to the destroyed train. Go through the train and then go through the open doorway with the exit sign.

Go down the nearby ladder and down the steps towards another door. Head down the steps to reach another station with a save point nearby. There is a large group of shadows nearby, so move carefully.

Removing the light outside the save point reveals a new area. Grab the second light from this room as well. In the Shrine Street Station, there are several train cars that can be entered. At the east end of Shrine Street Station is a scene called End of the Line that can be altered with story threads. Place the Murder Cult story thread onto the scene. There is an echo here that players can use to learn a new plot element about the summoning ritual.

Use this new story thread to transform the area. Use a light to open one of the train cars, but keep an eye out for shadows. Go through the train to gain access to the other side and then head through the door to go north. In this small side room there will be a Word of Power that can be claimed along with an echo. In the next room, look for a set of stairs that go up toward the Upper Platform.

Find the Murder Site

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough7

At the top of the stairs is a Word of Power beyond the gate. There is a manual save point nearby, so make sure to use it before proceeding. The other door in this area loops back up to the Main Tunnel. This works out for players, as the next step is to head to the Collapsed Tunnel. Once back in the Collapsed Tunnel, open up the storyboard and place the Summoning Ritual story thread on this scene. Approach the Collapsed Tunnel, but be prepared to do a 180.

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough8

The Dark Presence will suddenly emerge. Run towards the train, enter it, and then do a QTE to open the blocked door. Run to the save point and close the door. Once Alan comments that he can't hear the Dark Presence anymore, it will be safe to come out.

Players are, unfortunately, not out of the woods yet. As players get closer to the collapsed tunnel, the Dark Presence will return. Run as fast as possible through the newly opened tunnel. Once players enter a narrow space where they have to crawl, they are safe.

On the other side of the tunnel is an eerie place with impossibly large pillars and an altar with the body of Nightingale on it. Grab the heart that is near the altar to trigger a cutscene. Off to the left of the altar is a crack in the wall that players can go through. Activate the echo in this area and then go through the open door. Follow this path to reach Caldera Street Station. Head up toward the exit back to the streets, but make sure to take the light on the way out.

Go towards Parliament Tower. The payphone on the southwest edge of the Parliament Tower Plaza will begin to ring. After answering it, return to the entrance of Parliament Tower and go inside. Activate the echo and proceed further into the entryway. Enter the elevator as it opens and activate the panel. Once the elevator door opens, the next chapter will begin.

Where to Find Alice's Memory Card

alan-wake-2-initiation-2-casey-walkthrough9

Upon entering the apartment, start looking around for Alice. There is a door in the back right corner of the room. Explore the apartment and look for a camera on the table in the living room. It is missing a memory card, which can be found on the island in the kitchen.

Insert the memory card into the camera. This triggers a lengthy live-action screening of Alice reflecting on her time with Alan and the 13 years between the first game and the second. Once that is over, interact with the projector screen to trigger another cutscene.

Alan Wake 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
