Age of Wonders 4 allows players to create their own fantasy Faction, and lead them to glory as a powerful Wizard King or Risen Champion. To help their Faction and hinder their enemies, players have the ability to cast Spells both in combat and on Age of Wonders 4's world map

While fireballs and lightning storms can be useful in battle, Minor and Major Race Transformation Spells allow players to grant new abilities and features to an entire race on the Realm map. These expensive Spells can be found in the Tomes for each of the game's 6 Affinities, and will often take several turns to cast successfully.

Minor Race Transformations

Age of Wonders 4 Animal Kinship Transformation Spell after being cast

Like most Tome Spells in Age of Wonders 4, Race Transformations must be unlocked by picking the Tome of Magic that contains them, and then researched using Knowledge Points. There are 15 Minor Transformation Spells that can be applied to the Races in Age of Wonders 4, divided between the 6 Affinities:

Astral Affinity Minor Transformations

  • Magical Wards (Tome of Warding, Tier 1)
    • +2 Lightning, Fire, and Frost Resistance
    • 150 Mana, 150 World Map Casting Points
  • Astral Blood (Tome of Amplification, Tier 2)
    • Attunement: Fortune, which increases Critical Hit chance whenever combat spells are cast
    • 250 Mana, 250 World Map Casting Points

Chaos Affinity Minor Transformations

  • Spawnkin (Tome of the Horde, Tier 1)
    • Increased number of entities in each unit, allowing for Skaven-like swarms
    • +20% damage
    • Incompatible with Supergrowth
    • 150 Mana, 150 World Map Casting Points
  • Reveler's Heart (Tome of Revelry, Tier 2)
    • +50% Morale from all sources
    • 250 Mana, 250 World Map Casting Points
  • Vessels of Chaos (Tome of Pandemonium, Tier 3)
    • +10% damage on attacks for each of the target's negative status effects. Stacks up to 3 times
    • 350 Mana, 350 World Map Casting Points
  • Scion of Flame (Tome of Chaos Channeling, Tier 4)
    • +4 Fire Resistance
    • Vengeful Flames, which damages Melee attackers
    • Fiery Wake, which ignites flammable terrain as units move over it
    • Immunity to Burning
    • 450 Mana, 450 World Map Casting Points

  • Earthkin (Tome of Rock, Tier 1)
    • +1 Defense
    • Rock Camouflage, allowing units to hide in Rocky terrain like Earth Elementals
    • Rock Walk, allowing units to move quickly across Rocky terrain
    • 150 Mana, 150 World Map Casting Points
  • Steel Skin (Tome of Transmutation, Tier 3)
    • +2 Defense
    • +2 Blight and Lightning Resistance
    • 350 Mana, 350 World Map Casting Points
  • Goldtouched (Tome of the Golden Realm, Tier 4)
    • +2 Resistance
    • +1 Gold per Population in Cities
    • 450 Mana, 450 World Map Casting Points

    • +10% Damage
    • +10% Critical Hit chance

Age of Wonders 4 High Culture Race

The five Major Race Transformation Spells represent the peak of transformation magic in Age of Wonders 4. All Affinities except Materium get access to a Major Transformation in one of their Tier 4 Tomes, but the Mana and Casting Points costs are significantly increased.

Astral Major Transformation

  • Astral Attunement (Tome of Astral Convergence, Tier 4)
    • Pass Through, which allows units to walk through obstacles
    • +1 Mana and Knowledge per Population

Chaos Major Transformation

    • Demonkin, granting Burning immunity and faster movement on Desolate terrain

    • Charge Resistance, making units stronger against Shock unit attacks

Order Major Transformation

  • Angelize (Tome of Exaltation, Tier 4)
    • Units gain the Celestial unit type
    • Flying
    • Faithful, which reduces upkeep

    • Units gain the Undead unit type
