When the events of WandaVision finally came to a close, Wanda’s decision to spare Agatha’s life and put her into the role of her chosen character, Agnes, foreshadowed her return. Agatha Harkness might be new to the MCU, but she has a long history behind her in the Marvel comics. WandaVision also hinted at the fact that Agatha is centuries old, and bringing her back in future projects might make her one of the most interesting characters Marvel has ever seen.

Despite Wanda’s mistakes in the series, WandaVision introduces Agatha as the first real female antihero in the MCU. Characters like Loki and Deadpool have definitely embodied the antihero persona, and they were fully aware of what they were doing the whole time. Wanda’s devious actions are often the result of ignorance, so it can be hard to label her an antihero, because she seems like an overwhelmed young woman struggling to cope with her grief, more than anything else. Agatha, however, isn’t afraid to blur the lines between moral boundaries, and like Loki or Deadpool, she’s very much in control when choosing to do something wrong.

Since Agatha has been left alive in Westview, she’s bound to make a return to help Wanda with her magic training. Agatha offered up her services as an alternative to living in Wanda’s fabricated world, and although she might have been denied in the WandaVision finale, it’s rare for characters as powerful as her to be left forgotten in the Marvel universe. Agatha’s main purpose for playing along with Wanda’s reality was to figure out how she managed to create the Hex. It’s unclear why Agatha wanted that power, or what she planned to do with it, so parts of her story still remain unexplored.

A brief glimpse into Agatha’s past also revealed that her coven planned to kill her for using dark magic. Once again, there are pieces of her past still missing, because WandaVision never elaborated on what she was doing with her unconventional magic usage. Agatha ended up sucking the magic from her cover, which also included her own mother, when they tried to stop her. As of right now, there aren’t any other characters in the MCU capable of stealing powers from other heroes, which makes Agatha very rare and very strong.

The throwdown between Agatha and her coven happened centuries before the events of WandaVision, meaning Agatha is extremely old. Marvel hasn’t revealed how she managed to live so long, but given the amount of power she has, her immortality could be the result of an undisclosed multiverse hopping power, which could be a game-changer for Phase 4.

Recently, it has been revealed that Wanda is also in possession of multiverse hopping abilities, which once again proves that Agatha would be an excellent mentor for her. Knowing Marvel, the bits and pieces of Agatha’s past scattered throughout WandaVision were meant to be a brief setup for something much larger, including the importance of magic in the multiverse.

Based on everything Agatha told Wanda about the importance of casting spells, it’s obvious that she knows far more about magic than any other character in the MCU thus far. She was also able to inform Wanda about the now-famous prophecy from the Book of the Damned, and was well aware of what makes Wanda the elusive Scarlet Witch.

Wanda needs help controlling her magic, and Agatha will undoubtedly come back to tell Wanda what she knows. Sharing her knowledge with the younger witch, and getting another chance to explore more of her past on-screen, could make Agatha one of the most complex Marvel characters to date. Agatha served as an antagonistic force during WandaVision, but that wasn’t always the plan for her character.

If Wanda and Agatha can set aside their differences, this would allow for Agatha to become Marvel's newest hero after she and Wanda work together to save the multiverse. Obviously, both witches have done some things that they shouldn’t be proud of, but Agatha’s character has just as much potential for greatness as Wanda does. Whether or not Agatha returns as a villain, or turns over a new leaf to become a hero, she will still be a major help or extreme hindrance for Marvel’s heroes as they fight to restore balance to the universe.

It’s highly probable that Agatha and Wanda will reunite eventually, and giving them the chance to flush out their relationship, and their complicated pasts, on-screen could prove to make them the most powerful duo the MCU has ever seen. Other characters from WandaVision like Monica Rambeau, and even Wanda herself, are set to make a return in the future, so it would be a shame if Marvel left Agatha out of the fold. With so much left unexplained about her history, Agatha’s character could have one of the most complicated backstories in the MCU to date.
