Professional wrestler Kenny Omega being a gamer won't come as a surprise to his fans. He's known for his cosplay and love of video games, next to his work in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling. As part of a Twitter Q&A, Omega responded briefly to a question about AEW's long-awaited video game.

While Omega wasn't able to confirm any specific details about AEW's first video game plans, he did have a teaser for fans. Asked a simple question, "Video game news?" Omega's response is equally brief. "Coming (hopefully) soon!" is what he says, already understanding that sometimes things take longer than expected in the video game business. He'd later answer a similar question with "We can alllllmost talk a little bout it." Still, if Omega is confident enough to even speak publicly about AEW's game then it must be progressing nicely.

An AEW video game has been confirmed for some time, though the status of the project has been kept ambiguous. It hasn't been clear if AEW has a partner in the first place, let alone how far along in development it is. But given that AEW has talked about plans for a video game going back to July 2019, it's likely that a deal has been done and a game is in the works. It's probably going to take a year or several to make, but AEW could be readying confirmation of who is working on the game, at least.

Speculation among fans is torn into two camps. One camp would love for AEW to be picked up by Yuke's, the developer of WWF and WWE games since the year 2000. Yuke's recently split away from 2K, which holds the WWE license, leaving Yuke's free to do something new. The second camp really wants AEW to partner with a studio to make a more retro-inspired game. Some would like a Nintendo 64/PS2-era game like WWF No Mercy or Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, while others would love something even more retro, like a sprite-based game akin to WWF Wrestlefest or Super Fire Pro Wrestling.

During his Q and A, Kenny Omega also let his fanboy show and answered questions about his favorite video games. For example, Omega confirmed that he plays Apex Legends pretty much every day. He also confirmed that his favorite classic game is Earthbound. Omega also offered up his most anticipated game of 2020, saying that he's very excited to play the Resident Evil 3 Remake.

Expect more information about AEW's wrestling video game (hopefully) soon.
