AEW Fight Forever is a wrestling game that offers fans the kind of wrestling matches they want. If players enjoy arcade-like experiences where the combatants beat each other up in exploding barbed wire matches, they can.

Alternatively, two skilled players can have grappling contests with the kind of back-and-forth action that wrestling fans have come to expect. There are hidden mechanics underneath the hood of AEW Fight Forever that lets players have the style of wrestling matches they want. It's not quite the simulation that WWE 2K23 or Fire Pro Wrestling World offers, but there's a surprising amount of depth, and fans are discovering new things, like special counter and reversal moves that catch wrestlers mid-air.

Catch Reversals in AEW Fight Forever

AEW Fight Forever Anti Air Defense Skill

There are multiple ways to counter and reverse attacks and wrestling moves in AEW Fight Forever using the counter and reversal buttons. However, there are hidden reversals, like catching opponents during a diving attack. The counter allows players to grab a diving opponent during a match without a Special stored in the momentum bar, like in the WWE 2K23 series.

The Anti-Air Defense Skill

Before attempting to catch an opponent mid-air with the counter, players must check to see if their chosen wrestlers have the skill:

  • Press the Y button on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation, X on Switch, or click the settings cogwheel on the bottom left of the main menu screen.
  • Under Game Records, highlight and select Wrestler Info. Now select the AEW wrestler. The powerhouse-type wrestlers like Paul Wight and Lance Archer have a better chance of having the required skill.
  • Press RB on Xbox, R1 on PlayStation, and R on Switch, or highlight and select Moves and Skills with the mouse and keyboard.
  • Now press the X button on Xbox, Square on PlayStation, the Y button on Switch, or click on Skill List at the bottom of the screen with a keyboard and mouse.
  • Highlight and select the Action Skills section in the middle row.
  • Ensure that the AEW superstar has a checkmark next to Anti-Air Defense.
  • This skill will allow players to catch diving attacks.

How to Use a Catch Reversal in AEW Fight Forever

With the Anti-Air Defense skill, the player's wrestlers can reverse diving opponents in and out of the ring. However, it is more reliable if the momentum bar isn't too low. If it's blue or in the danger zone, the likelihood of catching a diving opponent drops. Applicable wrestlers can use the air reversal by pressing the A on Xbox, X on PlayStation, B on Switch, or K on a keyboard on all diving opponents in and out of the ring, diving from the turnbuckles, and attacking from ladders. The following wrestlers have Anti-Air Defense Skills:

  • Sting
  • Paul Wight
  • Lance Archer
  • Powerhouse Hobbs
  • Brian Cage
  • Kris Statlander
  • Luchasaurus
  • Brodie Lee
  • Eddie Kingston
  • Chris Jericho
  • Jade Cargill
  • Miro
  • Nyla Rose
  • Wardlow
  • Owen Hart
