8 Most Iconic Spider-Man Comic Covers, Ranked

Spider-Man is one of Marvel's best heroes, so it's no surprise that he has some of the most iconic comic book covers of all time.

Whilst fans eagerly await for the next installment in the Spider-Verse series, and to see what’s next for Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, it’s a good time to look back at the funniest versions of Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse, and what made them so special, with hope that audiences might see them again for Beyond the Spider-Verse.

7 Peter B. Parker

Earth-616

Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse

The original Spider-Man, Peter B. Parker is what most fans know as the web-swinging character. Peter has all the charm associated with Spider-Man, from his casual mess-ups to his constant quips. Peter B. Parker always knows when to crack a joke, even if sometimes, it’s definitely not the moment for it. In Across the Spider-Verse, Peter has grown after helping to teach Miles how to be Spider-Man, and he is accompanied by his daughter.

This can make for some even more comedic scenes, as Peter B. is obsessed with his daughter May-Day, even to the point where he will show hundreds of photos on his phone and declare to all Spider-People when May-Day needs her diaper changed. He’s funny, he’s the original, he’s Spider-Man, but a dad (something fans have asked for, for years).

6 Spider-Punk

Earth-138

Daniel Kaluuya Spider-Punk Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Hobie Brown helps to fight the oppression found on his home Earth, but when he’s not taking the battle to the corrupt government of his world’s London, he’s, still taking the battle to a different regime, that of the Spider-Verse. Hobie Brown doesn’t believe in rules of labels, and as an anarchist and a rebel, he does what he believes is right, regardless of the current cause. Spider-Punk’s ambitions are noble, and it helps that he’s pretty funny.

He's one of the most charismatic characters in Across the Spider-Verse, and his banter with both Gwen and Miles steals the show and hopefully remains even more present for the sequel. He doesn’t believe in rules, and his charm is always dialed to 11.

5 Spider-Mobile

Earth-53931

Whilst Spider-Mobile doesn’t exactly do much in Across the Spider-Verse, it’s still a hilarious concept that deserves credit. Not only is the idea of a cars universe in Marvel funny, but the fact that this version of Peter Parker is called “Peter Parkedcar” is just absurd enough that it needs to be mentioned.

Without a mouth, it can be assumed that Spider-Mobile’s beeps are quips, and audiences will have to wonder what this Spider-Vehicle is saying to his companions in the Spider-Verse. From the design of the buggy to the wheels, hopefully, Spider-Mobile doesn’t have to worry about rust in his home universe.

4 Insomniac Spider-Man

Earth-1048

insomniac spider-man in across the spider-verse

Whilst Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man makes just a brief cameo in Across the Spider-Verse, it’s hard not to look at the character without remembering the level of quips he features in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Insomniac have developed their own Peter Parker, but this version of Spider-Man seems to have something in common with the others, and that’s the incessant need to quip.

There are many hilarious lines found in the Spider-Man games, and whilst they are not made known to those who have just watched Across the Spider-Verse, seeing this character within the film is sure to provide a chuckle for those who adore the games.

3 LEGO Spider-Man

Earth-13122

Lego Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse

The charming LEGO Marvel universe presents Peter Parker as a fond ally to Spider-Man 2099’s Miguel O’Hara. This version of Spider-Man is even to scale, meaning that they are as small as one would expect from a plastic toy. It’s adorable seeing LEGO Spider-Man in action, even if it is hard to spot, but it certainly makes for comedic moments when he is sighted.

To assist with the humor even more, LEGO Spider-Man seems to make his own sound effects, with his own set of “thwips” and “beeps” to communicate his actions as if he’s just playing. Whilst LEGO Spider-Man might not be able to take on the might of the Spider-Verse, he can certainly provide a good chuckle.

2 Web-Slinger & Widow

Earth-31913

Web-Slinger & Widow

Strong impressions are made when audiences meet Web-Slinger and his horse, Widow. The character drops down to introduce himself to Miles, who is one of the rare characters who actually does so. When he’s done talking, his horse uses webs to quickly thwip upwards to disappear out of frame. It’s hilarious to see a Spider-Horse with powers associated with Spider-Man, especially when the horse also protects its secret identity.

Web-Slinger is not just a funny concept and character with homages to spaghetti westerns, but one who impresses with his innovation. Web-Slinger doesn’t seem to have web-shooters like a normal Spider-Man, but instead, guns that fire webs adding to the genius of this Spider-Person’s design.

1 Scarlet Spider

Earth-94

ben reilly as the scarlet spider played by andy samberg in spider-man: across the spider-verse

For the Scarlet Spider, the audience is laughing at him, not with him. Whilst most comic book fans of the character would despise this depiction of Ben Reiley, casual moviegoers can enjoy how it pokes fun at the usual 90s edge that the character has. With bulging biceps, a tragic backstory, and an act for brooding, Scarlet Spider embodies it all to the hilarious affair.

Paired with voice talent from Andy Samberg, the Scarlet Spider is sure to be a memorable addition to the cast, even if he doesn’t get as much time to shine as the other mainline Spider-People. Yet, even with such limited screen time, Scarlet Spider ensures a few laughs.
