Highlights

  • The DF-GN-06 Ming-Tang is a reliable Generator with decent EN Capacity, allowing for frequent Quick Boosts and flying, but lacks specialization for Energy Weapons.
  • The VP-20S is a balanced Generator suitable for players still figuring out their ACs' specialization, offering good overall stats and a lightweight option for agility.
  • The VE-20C is an excellent Generator for Energy Weapon-based AC builds, providing high EN Capacity and optimized Energy Firearm Specialization, but sacrifices mobility due to its weight.

In Armored Core 6, picking the right Generator for an AC often makes or breaks the build in terms of maximizing the mech’s potential. During combat, movement and firing Energy Weapons need proper EN management, and the correct Generator will affect how an AC handles during bullet storms, whizzing missiles, and laser blasts.

The DF-GN-06 Ming-Tang Generator is a great option for players who want their ACs to have consistent EN during battles. It has a decent EN Capacity to go along with EN Recharge and Post-Recovery EN Supply stats to allow for frequent Quick Boosts and flying around missions, so long as they do not overclock it and red line their EN Capacity.

Its downside, however, is that it’s not a great Generator for running Energy Weapons since its Energy Firearm Specialization is subpar. On top of this, the Ming Tang is also on the heavier side. Though this may sound offputting, players can still get plenty of use out of the DF-GN-06 Ming-Tang if they choose to make use of middle to heavyweight ACs.

As far as balanced AC builds, players can never go wrong running the VP-20S as their Generator. The VP-20S is available after completing the early missions, and it has decent overall stats to keep many players’ ACs zipping around the battlefield. The VP-20S is also one of the lighter Generators in the game, making it an excellent option for speedy lightweight AC builds.

In most cases, the VP-20S is a good Generator for players who are still figuring out what type of damage their ACs will specialize in. It also has decent Energy Firearm Specialization, but given how power-hungry Energy Weapons are, players might be relegated to equip two Energy Weapons on either hand or one Back Unit at most. Though it's unlocked during the early game of Armored Core 6, the VP-20S can prove to be extremely valuable while players progress.

For players who are leaning towards an Energy Weapon-based AC build, the VE-20C is an excellent Generator to have. It sports great EN Capacity and EN Output stats that are more than enough to shoulder the heavy EN needs Energy Weapons require. With the VE-20C, Energy Weapons also get maximized on the damaging side of things since it has great Energy Firearm Specialization stats.

That said, the VE-20C is one of the heavier Generators in the game. This equates to ACs that will run with this Generator to be on the heavyweight side of builds. But given that most Energy Weapons also weigh a lot, mobility will take a hit in favor of damage when running Energy Weapon-based ACs. If players don't mind this slight drawback, they should definitely consider making the VE-20C a part of their build.

The Coral Generators have a unique mechanic; unlike other Generators, these engines want players to spend their AC’s Energy and place them on the red line. This is because these Generators have the best Post-Recovery EN Supply, which means it is better to exhaust EN as often as possible. The IB-C03G: NGI 000 is the beefier Coral Generator in the game and provides good Energy Weapon stats. As their names suggest, they are also great for Coral Weapons.

On the downside, its EN Recharge stat is quite bad. Players running IB-C03G: NGI 000 or any Coral Generators are better off overclocking their boosts instead of waiting for their EN to replenish the conventional way. It is also a heavy Generator which means it has to be installed on heavier AC builds. Even with all its flaws, however, the IB-C03G: NGI 000 is an impressive addition to a player's AC when they are attempting to create the best build they possibly can.

Armored Core 6 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
