When it comes to Norse mythology, there's no event quite as big as Ragnarok. It's an apocalyptic battle that kills most of the major Norse gods, and sees the world destroyed and reborn in a massive flood.

It's only fitting that Assassin's Creed Valhalla goes big with its interpretation of the story. The Dawn of Ragnarok DLC is arguably large enough to be its own game, clocking in at a 15 GB download size and featuring a brand-new expansive map.

But considering it's a month full of major releases, players might want to budget their expected game hours ahead of time. Here's how long will it take for them to complete Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok.

How Long is Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok

This is a rare case where the development team itself has given a playtime estimate. According to Ubisoft Montreal, Dawn of Ragnarok contains about 35 hours worth of content. But whether this number is accurate depends entirely on how the player approaches the game.

There is definitely enough in the expansion to reach that hour count, but only if the player is going for full 100% completion, doing every side quest, and finding every hidden corner of the map. If they're only doing the main quests and rushing to the end, players can expect to finish in a third of the time, in about 10 to 12 hours.

Thankfully, Ubisoft Montreal makes it easy to jump straight into Dawn of Ragnarok, even if the player hasn't finished Assassin's Creed Valhalla's base story, or if they haven't touched the game in a while. The game expects a base level of 340, but the game has ways to rush the players to that number. They don't need to worry about grinding time.

Conversely, that also means it's possible for players to be over-leveled. If a truly dedicated player has already sailed past level 340, it could make pre-set challenges a cinch, and speed up the play time. While there are ways to temporarily up the player's level for the expansion, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent way to balance them downward, aside from just starting with a fresh file.

It's uncertain whether Dawn of Ragnarok will be the end of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. They could be working on another future expansion or could be working on the next mainline title in the series. But if this is the last, it seems to be a comprehensive sendoff.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
