In Abiotic Factor, one of the most important things players will need to consider is base building. During your playthrough, you will need to come up with an idea of where you may want to build your base, and how you wish for it to function.

However, as the base building is quite essential to your survival in Abiotic Factor, ensuring you have built one in the best possible location can make all the difference for your playthrough. For this reason, knowing how to build a base, and the best areas to consider for your base location will come in handy during your adventures.

How to Build a Base in Abiotic Factor

In Abiotic Factor, bases are highly important. Not only do they give you a location to rest, but also to store and accumulate supplies, potentially turning a specific area into a stronghold that you can defend, reinforce, and survive at. To build a base, you will need both a Hammer and a Screwdriver.

The Hammer enables you to dismantle or repair barricades and base structures, while the Screwdriver is used to 'package' nearby everyday office furniture items into these base facilities, such as traps, barricades, and other reinforcements to ensure your survival. You can pretty much approach this any way you'd like and build as you go, just remember to make the necessary repairs and upgrades to your base

Luckily, when it comes to building your first base or rebuilding a new base further down the line, Abiotic Factor does give you the freedom to choose almost anywhere to do so, so if you find yourself in a pinch, a nearby room may even be a solid short-term spot, as long as there is furniture for you to turn into barricades and traps. Or, if you are playing in co-op mode with your friends, you could even split up and have someone find the best base location while others track down some suitable furniture to turn into parts for around your base from other locations, ensuring you will have more than enough materials to last.

Best Base Locations in Abiotic Factor

First and foremost, your base will deteriorate over time, so choosing a base location that you can access as easily and frequently as needed will be highly important, enabling you to continue improving and reconstructing as you survive longer during your playthrough. Just remember that some areas may be more prone to having threats or enemies lurking around, which may therefore make your base more prone to raids, and less likely to remain standing strong and sturdy.

One of the safest locations that you can pick for your first base in Abiotic Factor is either the level 1 or level 2 Office Sector buildings, as these are much more forgiving terrains - though not rid of threats entirely. As you progress your exploration and discovery of different areas, you will find that many hidden pathways and tunnels lead back to this Office Sector Level 1 location, making it the perfect place to set up and expand a base for the duration of your playthrough.

You should also always try to ensure your base has easy access to other locations for exploration and supplies, as well as a source of available power through one or more Power Sockets. Without a source of power, you will be unable to craft or power certain resources, such as some of your traps - which can make all of the difference between maintaining your base over time.
