Gamers interested in the upcoming co-operative game A Way Out will be happy to learn that it has officially gone gold. For the unfamiliar, "going gold" means that a game's production is completed, and the studio is now ready to mass produce copies on discs for retail sale. The news was officially announced by the director of A Way Out, Josef Fares, who was evidently excited to reiterate that the game is due to arrive on March 23, 2018.

A Way Out attempts to stand out from the crowd by forcing players into a co-operative experience by eliminating any single player elements. Players will be forced to work together in order to progress through the game, and fans who purchase A Way Out can even have a friend who doesn't own the game log in to help them out at no cost. While gamers are free to use local co-op or their friend's list to invite a pal to play, Fares has confirmed that A Way Outwon't provide online matchmaking for those looking to quickly partner with a stranger.

Fares is well known as being the creator of the highly-acclaimed game Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons, a game praised for its ability to weave emotion and character building. The title is widely considered one of the best games of 2013, meaning that Josef Fares' latest title has some big shoes to fill.

A Way Out was only introduced 9 months ago at EA Play, where Fares showed a title with a much more mature tone than his last game. Promising car chases, shootouts, melee combat, and several stealth sequences, A Way Out might offer the prison breaking experience that the lackluster Prison Break titles could never provide. Josef Fares certainly doubled down on the mature themes when he flipped the bird at the Game Awards, cursed on livestream, and then showed off new gameplay for the title. If done as an intentional marketing move, it certainly got some attention.

Now that the game has gone gold, Josef Fares will be stuck waiting 24 more days to find out if his co-operative adventure is a success. The strict approach to co-operative gameplay may be a gamble, but the fact that friends who don't have the title can play for free should help the game find a way out of store shelves.

A Way Out releases on March 23, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
