In A Plague Tale: Innocence, players are thrown into a tragic world of death and disease, and young Hugo and Amicia must try and find a way to survive in the darkness. The siblings return in A Plague Tale: Requiem, and the game ends with players still pondering many questions. These questions could be answered if A Plague Tale: Requiem receives quality DLC, something which its predecessor failed to pull off.

A Plague Tale: Requiem features stealth gameplay that will be familiar to fans of the series, but its story is filled with heartbreaking twists. Some DLC down the road would be a great way to adequately round off the story, leaving players satisfied. It would also be a great way to find out what happened to some beloved characters whose stories end abruptly.

A Plague Tale: Innocence’s DLC

In A Plague Tale: Innocence, players meet Hugo and Amicia who are royalty in 14th-century France. Things take a dark turn when a rat plague breaks out, spreading death and misery everywhere. Amicia is forced to flee with Hugo, and things are made harder by the fact that the Inquisition is on the hunt for Hugo. The game is relatively short, though it is packed with suspenseful gameplay. Amicia and Hugo don’t have many powerful weapons, so they are forced to sneak their way around the Inquisition. When their path is blocked by rats, they must make clever use of light to get rid of the rodents. During the game’s short duration, players also encounter many memorable characters who become friends with Amicia and Hugo. This includes Arthur and Melie the thieves, Rodric the brawny man, and Lucas the aspiring alchemist.

A Plague Tale: Innocence's story is very captivating, and as it progresses, players uncover more about the Prima Macula and its connection to the ongoing plague. Due to the game’s length, players do not find out as much as they might want to about characters like Melie and Arthur. This issue could have been solved with some DLC, but the only thing offered by the game is the Coat of Arms DLC which contains three alternative outfits for Hugo and Amicia.

A Plague Tale: Requiem Should Do Better with Its DLC

A Plague Tale: Requiem resumes Amicia and Hugo’s story. At first, all seems well. Unfortunately, the Prima Macula rears its ugly head again, and the loathsome rat plague returns. There are more rodents than ever, but Amicia has new weapons and alchemical ammunition to help her out. Requiem is longer than Innocence, but by the end of it, players are still left with many questions. These questions could be easily answered with DLC, but so far Requiem only has a Protector Pack which contains an extra crossbow skin, flowers for Amicia to put in her hair, and bonus crafting material.

As A Plague Tale: Requiem is still in its early days, more substantial DLC may be on the way. This extra content could detail what happened to Melie, who the next Macula Carrier is, or how Amicia will move on after Requiem’s tragic ending. These questions could be answered with some DLC that expands on the story. According to Asobo Studio, A Plague Tale: Requiem is it for the story for now. Nevertheless, fans looking to explore the series more can look forward to the upcoming A Plague Tale television adaptation. If the series is successful, it could encourage developers to continue fleshing out Amicia's depressing yet unforgettable world.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
