Xbox recently revealed its plans for Xbox Game Pass releases in the back half of April and among those tiles was the surprise inclusion of 7 Days to Die. 7 Days to Die is a survival horror game that, technically, has remained in early access since its initial launch in 2013. That means it's still frequently being updated as developer The Fun Pimps expand and polish the experience. That brings up a serious issue, however. The Xbox version of 7 Days to Die technically hasn't been updated since 2017, leaving many questioning exactly what is coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month. While 7 Days to Die was originally self-published by The Fun Pimps on PC, the developer partnered with a publisher to bring the early access game to consoles including Xbox One. That publishing partner was Telltale, which as many know went bankrupt and restructured in 2017. The Fun Pimps have said this led to the end of support of 7 Days to Die on Xbox One in 2017. There's likely a mess of legal and technical issues surrounding the project.RELATED: Xbox Game Pass Confirms Another Day One Game for May 2022Yet now 7 Days to Die is officially coming to Xbox Game Pass on April 26, presumably with the approval of The Fun Pimps. Fans are questioning what this means for 7 Days to Die on Xbox, both with optimism and cynicism.

Optimistically, the news that 7 Days to Die is being added to Xbox Game Pass means that The Fun Pimps have a new control over the project and can resume updating it. Cynically, 7 Days to Die is being pushed onto Xbox Game Pass by The Fun Pimps or the new Telltale without any intention to update the game. It could just be a way to capitalize on the continued excitement surrounding the PC version of the game.

For the time being, no comment has been made regarding The Fun Pimps' plans for 7 Days to Die on Xbox. Multiple updates have been made to 7 Days to Die on Steam, however, so development continues. It's just the state of the Xbox One game that remains in question.

Even without the updates that The Fun Pimps have made between 2017 and now, 7 Days to Die may be a fun experience to check out for survival horror game fans with Xbox Game Pass. 7 Days to Die will arrive on Xbox Game Pass on April 26.

7 Days to Die is available now in early access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
