One of the things that's important for players to get to ensure that they at least make it through the first week, is getting armor. Where other clothing items might help with a player's resistance to heat or cold, armor helps reduce the amount of damage that could be done to a player. The game only gets harder as time goes on, and players will find themselves up against stronger zombies. Hence, having a good set of armor can mean the difference between life and death.

5 Padded Armor - One Of The Best Early Game Armor Sets

For early gameplay, crafting padded armor is an easy and cheap way to protect a player.

It is very easy for players to die in the early game as they start off with practically nothing and must be quick about gathering resources and finding a place to live. They won't have the time or resources to create a lot of the armor that offers the most protection, but there is one type of armor that they will be able to craft without too much difficulty: Padded Armor. It's crafted using Duct Tape and Cloth.

Players don't need a schematic to build it, it won't impede on a player's speed or stamina, and it has a minimum durability of 75 and a maximum of 150. It's the only type of armor that doesn't reduce a player's movement. There are 5 pieces of Padded Armor that can be crafted, though wearing all the pieces won't give the player any added advantages. If a player decides to mod the Padded Armor they can make it better and tailor it to their own playing style. It's one of the three armor sets that's categorized as being light armor.

4 Military Armor - The Best Of The Light Armor

Military armor has the highest durability of all the light armors.

Military Armor is one of the three light armor types and is easily the strongest. In order to craft it, players have to either obtain the Military Armor schematic or find the Urban Combat Vol 1 perk book. It is an armor type that will take some time to be able to craft but is worth the wait as it's the best armor for those that prioritize stealth, while also wanting to be as well-protected as possible. To craft a piece of Military Armor, players must have Military Armor Parts, which can only be obtained by scrapping certain things or by buying them from a trader.

It also needs Military Fibers which are easier to obtain than Military Parts, as they can be looted off of dead zombies (Infected Police Officers and Feral Zombies drop them more commonly), scrapping other Military Clothing, and even in munition crates. It can also be crafted at a Chemistry Station after obtaining 1 skill level in Physician. The armor has a minimum durability of 200 and a max of 400. Its downside is that it slows down a player's mobility, stamina, and it increases the noise they make by +10. That said, it has the highest durability out of all the light armor, making it something that will last for a while.

3 Iron Armor - Lots Of Work, But It's Worth It

Iron armor is more expensive to craft than scrap armor but has better stats.

Iron Armor is one of the 3 types of heavy armor, which offers the most protection against enemies for players, though it has less mobility than light armor and makes more noise. To craft Iron Armor, a player has to first obtain 1 level in Heavy Armor. The material cost and work that has to be put in to make Iron Armor is a lot more than Scrap Armor, which can be crafted without having to obtain any perks or schematics, but the protection the former offers makes the effort worthwhile.

Aside from gaining 1 level in Heavy Armor, players also have to craft Forged Iron which can be done using iron and clay soil in a forge. Iron Armor grants a minimum durability of 200 and a maximum durability of 400. When it comes to how much it affects a player's mobility, stamina, and how much noise they make, Iron Armor and Scrap Armor both have the same stats. They both decrease mobility by 6%, decrease stamina regeneration by 9%, and add +20 in noise increase. However, Iron Armor offers a lot more protection, and players can use the Muffled Connectors Mod to reduce the noise generated by it.

2 Firefighter's Helmet - Be Safe While Fighting Fires And Zombies

The Firefighter's Helmet can only be crafted after finding and reading Vol 7 of The Fireman's Almanac

The Firefighter Helmet isn't a part of any set, but it is one of the best helmets when it comes to taking damage. The Firefighter Helmet can only be obtained after acquiring the Fireman's Almanac Vol 7. The Fireman's Almanac perk book is a great to pick up in general as it offers a number of other benefits with its different volumes.

At Vol 2, players will be able to craft the Fireman's Axe mod, and in its final volume, players will be able to sprint longer, and they can never be encumbered while in the Burnt Forest. It has minimum durability of 200 and max durability of 400, putting it on par with the Iron Helmet.

1 Steel Armor - The Strongest Armor In The Game

Steel Armor offers the most durability but is one of the loudest and negatively affects stamina and mobility.

Based on how much durability it offers, Steel Armor is the strongest out of all the armor types. It's the perfect choice for players that want to go all medieval on zombies. One of the resources that players need is Steel Armor Parts. Like Military Armor Parts, it's something that cannot be crafted but has to be either bought at a trader or found when scrapping something. Players will also need Forged Steel, so a Forge and a Crucible are needed.

Steel Armor offers a minimum durability of 250 and a maximum of 500. Mobility and stamina are affected negatively, and it has a noise increase of +20, but some of that can be negated by mods. The Muffled Connectors Mods will greatly decrease the noise generated, and the Customized Fittings Mod will also decrease mobility and stamina penalties.

7 Days to Die is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
