Highlights

  • Fire Emblem: Fates is the top choice for a remake due to its compelling story and complex gameplay, and a remake would bring all three versions of the game together.
  • Yo-Kai Watch 3 deserves a second chance to shine as it is the best mainline game in the series, and a remake could also test the waters for future entries in the franchise.
  • Pokemon X and Y should receive a remake as they were a huge visual improvement in the franchise, and a potential remake could address the unresolved plot threads in the games.

The Nintendo 3DS was the last handheld system released by Nintendo before switching to the hybrid format introduced by the Switch. The console was home to a great selection of games, many of which are still fondly remembered by players even years after the console's demise.

The Best Nintendo 3DS Games Ever Made, Ranked

These Nintendo 3DS games stood out from the rest thanks to their amazing visuals, fun gameplay, and rich stories.

Among other games, there were also many great RPGs. While some games have been later ported to other systems, there are still some games that can be found only on the 3DS, and as such they should have a remake for new generations to enjoy these games in all their glory. But which 3DS RPGs should be remade?

The 3DS was home to a great selection of Fire Emblem games, starting with Fire Emblem: Awakening, the game that was solely responsible for turning a niche franchise into one of Nintendo's main assets. But limiting the choice to just one Fire Emblem game to remake, most players would probably choose Fire Emblem: Fates. The game has a far more compelling story and more complex gameplay, introducing many new features that would be kept for subsequent entries.

Most of all, a remake would be a great chance to unite all three versions of the game in a single package. Fire Emblem: Fates is the only game in the series to have multiple versions, one of which isn't even accessible anymore, given that it was released just as a DLC. A remake could bring all three versions together, allowing new players to experience the full story of the game without the need to hunt for other games.

2 Yo-Kai Watch 3

Yo-Kai Watch 3 came out late in the 3DS lifespan and, most importantly, at a time when the general interest in the Yo-Kai Watch franchise was quietly winding down. This is a shame because Yo-Kai Watch 3is easily the best mainline game in the series, and it should have received much more attention than it got. This is also the final mainline game to be released in the West so far, as Level-5 doesn't think it's feasible anymore to bring the franchise to the US and Europe.

Nintendo is famed for holding the best platformer characters and games, and the release of the 3DS is proof of that.

A remake would finally give the game a second chance to shine, and many players could finally discover this hidden gem for the 3DS in its best form and shape. Also, the game is becoming increasingly rare because there weren't many copies produced, which is another huge reason to bring it over to some of the new systems. Finally, it could be a chance to test the waters for future entries in the franchise, which could potentially be released in the West once again.

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a remake of the similarly titled Radiant Historia for the Nintendo DS, but both versions of the game were sadly overlooked by players. This is probably because both times the game came out towards the end of the systems' life-cycle when most gamers were already turning their attention to newer systems. And this is a real shame because Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is one of the best JRPGs of recent years.

While this remake already brought new, satisfying story content, a second remake could vastly improve the game's visuals, finally bringing it up to modern standards. Plus, it would be a chance to make the game accessible to new generations of players, given that the 3DS eShop doesn't exist anymore and that there aren't many physical copies around the world.

4 Pokemon X and Y

This is an obvious choice, as Pokemon games constantly get new remakes, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it's almost time for a Pokemon X and Y remake. These titles were the first 3D mainline games in the franchise, and they were a huge visual improvement over their immediate predecessors. Also, while the games may not be the most beloved in the series, there's no denying that Kalos was a fascinating region, to say the least.

Nintendo's modern handheld gaming system, the DS, held some of the best platformer games of all time.

There's also the fact that Pokemon X and Y is the only generation in the franchise that never got a third game or a sequel. Many fans speculated about a hypothetical Pokemon Z, which was sadly never released, leaving some hanging threads in the plot. Hopefully, a potential remake will address this issue, finally bringing to life what the developers had in mind for the third game that never materialized.

Ever Oasis deserves a remake because it's one of the best 3DS hidden gems. The game is a charming mix of action RPG and city-building, where players take the role of a cute character building and managing their oasis in a vast desert. Despite positive reception from critics, the game didn't enjoy great commercial success, which is a shame because this is indeed a good RPG-simulator hybrid.

More than that, the game also has a cool story, interesting characters, and a whole vibe of adventure and teamwork. A remake could amp up the storytelling, maybe add some extra quests or surprises, as well as multiplayer support, which could potentially help the game reach many more players given similarities with the more popular Animal Crossing.
