A story-driven game from the past is about to make a comeback - NIS America has announced an HD remaster of a fan-favorite Nintendo 3DS JRPG. The Legend of Legacy first launched for Nintendo 3DS on January 22, 2015.

Originally designed by an all-star team of industry veterans with contributions to iconic series like SaGa and Final Fantasy, The Legend of Legacy earned a place among JRPGs of its time. With its set of seven different heroes, each with individual motivations and arcs, the game offered an expansive world in the mystical land of Avalon, bringing replayability and a compelling storyline.

NIS America revealed that The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in early 2024. The game is a polished version of the original 3DS title, offering updated graphics and features. Pre-orders for the $79.99 limited edition are currently open via NIS America's Online Store. This special edition includes a digital soundtrack, a mini art book, a 55-page "Chronicles of Avalon" art book, a one-disc original soundtrack composed by Masashi Hamauzu, cloth poster, seven art cards, and a collector's box.

The announcement was accompanied by an overview of the game provided by NIS America, promising an array of features designed to enhance the original RPG experience. Gameplay improvements include innovative battle formations and combat roles, and the option to forge contracts with elementals for powerful abilities. The game also continues to capitalize on its story-centric approach with seven different heroes, each having unique motivations and story resolutions.

The remastering of The Legend of Legacy is emblematic of a broader industry trend toward revitalizing titles from the past for newer platforms. This not only offers longtime fans the opportunity to relive the original experience, but also for other fans of the genre to get to know the title this time improved and with new elements added to its usual gameplay. For NIS America, known for its role-playing game releases, this move adds another feather to its cap while also benefiting from the nostalgia-driven market.

While some might argue that the surge of remasters crowds the market and potentially hampers innovation, it's equally valid to say that these projects offer a second chance for underrated or overlooked games to find a new audience. With The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered, NIS America has a chance to not only capitalize on past successes but also add contemporary features that could set return in its future turn-based RPGs.

The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is scheduled to launch in early 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
