Vanillaware's stunning science fiction tactical RPG 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is an impressive achievement in storytelling. The Pacific Rim-like story revolves around teenagers who pilot giant robots to fight the invading Kaiju in the 1980s Tokyo setting.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim features time travel, multiple choices, and tactical combat that set it apart from Vanillaware's other games. There is much to absorb as decision-making plays an essential part in the gameplay, but defeating the Kaiju known as Deimos and unlocking the coveted S-Rank for the Supreme Defender Trophy in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will be sought after by fans.

The S-Rank In 13 Sentinels

13 Sentinels - obtaining an S Rank

In combat mode, also known as Destruction Mode, each battle is ranked by the player's performance. There are five scores in the ranking system, A, B, C, D, and S. S is the highest a player can score in Destruction Mode. The Sentinels must protect the terminal from damage and defeat the Kaiju quickly to earn the S-Rank. The longer the Kaiju are alive, the more damage they can cause to the city - this also affects the score.

To get the Supreme Defender trophy in 13 Sentinels, the player must get an S Rank in 30 separate missions. The tutorial missions in the prologue missions don't count toward the mission list and can't be scored accordingly. Thankfully, as a game where the developers wanted the player to enjoy the story without struggling with the battles, the difficulty level can be lowered, and it won't affect the S-Rank and still counts toward unlocking the Supreme Defender trophy.

How To Lower The Difficulty in 13 Sentinels

13 Sentinels - difficulty selection

As a mash-up of RPG and visual novel, players can enjoy the story without struggling with the combat in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Luckily, players can adjust the challenge to suit their playing style to acquire the Supreme Defender trophy and win every battle scenario without getting frustrated. There are three difficulty options to choose from:

  • Casual - Easy Mode
  • Normal - Medium Challenge
  • Intense - Hard Mode.

Once players have completed the prologue, finished the tutorial missions, and unlocked the Beginning of the End trophy, the game will allow the difficulty level to be changed. To change the difficulty in the combat wave area, press the R1 and L1 buttons on the PS4 or L and R on the Nintendo Switch before selecting the next wave.
