13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a prime example of a complicated visual narrative that can often leave players baffled during the early stages of the game. Originally released in Japan in 2019, it made its worldwide debut in 2020 and followed up with a Switch debut in 2022. The story follows 13 teenagers tasked with saving the world by operating giant mechs known as Sentinels to stop an alien invasion.

To ensure the characters are well-equipped throughout 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the player will need to choose the best weapon upgrades. Getting these will require a significant amount of Meta-Chips, which are also used for several other aspects of gameplay, so it will take some time to work up to get all the characters outfitted with the best gear. These are the best weapons to upgrade.

Interceptors

The Interceptors are a fantastic armament option for Flight Support or Fourth-Generation Sentinels. What this armament does is fire a drone that has armor-piercing capabilities. It may not be the strongest weapon in the G4's arsenal, but it will whittle away at the kaiju until Sentinels with more powerful weapons arrive on the scene.

Players can use this immediately at the start of any battle in combination with +EP recovery. It makes itself useful for nearly any situation, making it one of the best weapon upgrades in the game. The Sentinels that can use this armament are Shu Amiguchi, Renya Gouto, Yuki Takamiya, and Megumi Yakushiji.

Counter

Counter can be used by Flight Support and Melee Types. As the name implies, it is used to counter incoming attacks, making it a useful tool to have in the player's arsenal. However, it takes things a step further and doesn't just attack the kaiju that initiated the attack. The Sentinel will attack all kaiju in the immediate area surrounding them.

For the best results, the player should pair it with Composite Ceramic Armor. This will allow them to take on hordes of enemies at once with no problem. This armament is limited to Takatoshi Hijiyama and Yuki Takamiya.

Demolisher Blade

Demolisher Blade is an armament designated for the Melee Types or First-Generation Sentinels. The player will love this armament for the massive damage it deals. It is essentially an arm-mounted excavator that the Sentinel will use to cut through the kaiju in front of them, and it pays no attention to armor.

Obtaining Hyper Capacitor and combining it with Demolisher Blade is ideal. It extends the range of the Demolisher Blade and gives it more uses. This weapon upgrade is very good when dealing with bosses or large amounts of enemies. It can be used by Nenji Ogata, Ei Sekigahara, and Takatoshi Hijiyama.

High-Energy Pulse Lasers

Megumi Yakushiji in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

A great G4 upgrade is the High-Energy Pulse Lasers. It comes from the original armament of Arm-Mounted Pulse Lasers, which did not cost any EP to use. While this upgrade costs EP, it makes up for it with the increased range of damage, hitting more kaiju in one shot than the original.

It has armor-piercing abilities, so it can help wear down the enemies, but it's not the most efficient Sentinel weapon at killing kaiju. However, it can help clear a path, which is what makes it so beneficial. It is an armament that is unique to Megumi Yakushiji.

Missile Rain

For the player looking for widespread damage, Missile Rain delivers. It is a Long-Range or Third-Generation armament that brings down a storm of missiles in front of the Sentinel, having a dramatic effect on the enemy.

It has a high EP cost but is well worth it when it takes out a large swath of enemies. It becomes especially useful in the later stages of the game. The Sentinels that can use this armament are Tomi Kisaragi, Natsuno Minami, and Keitaro Miura.

Anti-Ground Piercing Rocket Launchers

To outfit the All-Arounder or Second-Generation Sentinel, the player will need Anti-Ground Piercing Rocket Launchers. This armament uses armor-piercing rockets directed at kaiju in the target area.

With this powerful armament, they'll have no problem facing off against swarms of G-Moler. Their heavy armor will stand no chance against these rockets. This armament is available for Juro Kurabe and Ryoko Shinonome.

Plasma Arc Fusion Cutter

Ryoko Shinonome in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

A G2 armament, Plasma Arc Fusion Cutter is a powerhouse when it comes to dealing damage, but it comes at a hefty price. The player can consider it to be a super-sized Demolisher Blade. However, it is very limited in its capacity to deal damage to the specified target only.

Reserving it for boss battles or locations where EP replenishment is easier is much wiser than using it regularly, as it costs a whopping 350 EP for each use. This armament can be used by Juro Kurabe, Ryoko Shinonome, and Iori Fuyusaka.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is currently available on PS4 and Switch.
