PlayStation consoles are famed for having some of the longest and most difficult games ever to grace the gaming world. There's God of War 2 and its brain-racking puzzles that left many players stuck in one terrain for weeks and then there's Watchdogs 2 which takes about a hundred hours to see the whole of the Bay Area through Marcus' eyes.

These two games and a hundred others might trick you into thinking that inordinate lengths are a prerequisite for PlayStation games but this list will show you that that is not always the case. Here are ten ridiculously short PlayStation games and how long it takes to complete them.

10 Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus - 5 hours

This fourth and final installment in the game's Future series was made exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It saw the return of player-favorite characters like Zephyr, Cronk and the Plumber. Set in a period after the events of A Crack in Time, the game's plot follows the journey of our two Polaris Defense Force members as they attempt to recapture Vendra Prog, the criminal who escaped their custody at the beginning of the game's story. The title is easy to complete, requiring about five hours for its entire storyline to be covered. As is the case with other Ratchet & Clank games, weaponry and firepower remain chaotic although the humor from its characters takes a somewhat dark undertone.

9 The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan - 4-5 hours

Belonging to the survival horror genre, this game can be finished in four to five terror-filled hours. Man of Medan can be played from the viewpoint of five different characters, all of whom embark on an underwater expedition to find the submerged wreckage of a World War 2 airplane. Somewhere along the line, a ghost ship comes into the picture and the frightful cutscenes in this part will make players grateful for the game's short length. Man of Medan features interactive drama, which means that the choices made by players ultimately determine the fate of the playable characters.

8 Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes - 4 hours

Metal Gear Solid has always been the brainchild of Kojima Productions. Ground Zeroes is the eighth installment in the series, and it was released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in March 2014 to serve as the prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain. The game, which was originally developed as a mission for Phantom Pain, centers around Snake sneaking into an American black site in Cuba to conduct a rescue operation. It was, however, split into its standalone game so players could get early access to Metal Gear Solid V. Ground Zeroes can be finished within four hours of gameplay.

7 Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty - 3-4 hours

We know what you are thinking and yes, there are two Ratchet & Clank games on this list. Quest for Booty was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3 in 2008. Being the second game in the Future series, it picks off from where Tools of Destruction ended. Following the game's story, we find the inseparable duo of Ratchet and Clank apart in this game as Clank is kidnapped by the Zoni. Players must wade through the game levels, playing as Ratchet to recover Clank and even at the most leisurely of speeds, the game's objectives can be achieved in three to four hours.

6 What Remains of Edith Finch - 2 hours

Another first-person adventure game developed by Giant Sparrow, What Remains of Edith Finch was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017. Players find themselves exploring the Finch family home through the character of Edith Finch, the last surviving member of the bloodline.

Her goal is to unravel the secrets behind the curse that forces one member of every generation to die a bizarre death. It involves exploring abandoned rooms and footpaths while listening to Edith recounting her family's history. The main story of the game can be completed in two hours.

5 Superhot - 2 hours

Most games that utilize first-person shooter mechanics are highly compelling on their own without any additions, but Superhot takes it a step further by making time pass only when the player moves. The game can best be described as a free-for-all where players attempt to eliminate enemy targets using guns and a variety of other weapons.

It is also appreciative of the minimalist style of art, presenting enemies in red, weapons in black, and the character's surroundings in either grey or white. Its campaign mode comprises about thirty levels and they can all be beaten in two hours.

4 Abzû - 2 hours

Abzû is one of the few adventure games in existence where players get to explore the watery world of the ocean.  Developed by Giant Squid Studios and published by 505 Games, the game was originally released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016.  Players assume the role of an unnamed female diver as she descends into ancient ruins loosely based on Babylonian and Sumerian myths. What makes the game even more enjoyable is the absence of a concrete plot for the storyline to adhere to, which allows players the freedom to inspect every inch of the submerged ecosystem without any repercussions. However, despite its painstaking attention to detail, Abzû only takes about two hours to complete.

3 The Unfinished Swan - Under 2 hours

Developed by Giant Sparrow, The Unfinished Swan is a first-person adventure game that was first released in October 2012 for the PlayStation 3. It follows the journey of a ten-year-old boy called Monroe into an ethereal world where the subject of one of his mother's unfinished paintings, a swan with no neck, has come to life. The game primarily involves firing paint at Monroe's whitewashed surroundings to reveal the hidden landscapes of a magical kingdom. It can be completed in under two hours.

2 Gone Home - Under 2 hours

Gone Home

On its initial release in August 2013, Gone Home was praised for having its story and characters address LGBT issues. Set in 1995, the game follows the story of a young woman who returns to her family home in Oregon to find the house desolate and her family nowhere to be seen. Players are expected to explore the house and piece together the events that transpired by examining journals, artifacts, and other items, all of which can be accomplished under two hours. It was developed and published by The Fullbright Company and released for the PlayStation 4 in 2016.

1 Donut County - 1-2 hours

Developed by American Indie designer Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive,Donut County endows players with the role of an ever-growing hole in the ground. The hole's objective is to swallow as many objects as possible, thus generating more trash for the Raccoon King. Donut County was a side project Ben Esposito worked on while he developed The Unfinished Swan. Given that swallowing stuff isn't that hard a thing to do, the game can be finished under one to two hours of play.
